Mar de Dunas Desierto de Atacama

Large areas of sand that look like a painting. This is just one of the wonders that the Atacama Desert gives us, with a Sea of Dunes (Mar de Dunas) that enchants with its mysterious forms in the most arid place in the world.

Located in the north of Chile, near the city of Copiapó (Atacama region), the area is one of the largest dune fields in the country, with an area of 335 square kilometers. Research suggests that these dunes were created by the strong winds that gathered over the last thousands of years, making these large amounts of sand come together and form a unique spectacle.

While the Sea of Dunes in the Atacama Desert can be explored in 4×4 vehicles, the loose sands can be dangerous for even the most experienced drivers. So, if you like adventure and sport, you can go sandboarding in the hills. Plus, you can take amazing pictures when the sun sets!

Adventure and romance

We already told you that the Sea of Dunes of the Atacama Desert is an ideal place for sports and adventure, but it is also perfect for those who want to have a trip full of romance. The complete getaway from the noise of the city will allow you to connect and even hear your partner’s palpitations, all while looking at a breathtaking landscape.

It is important to mention that the Atacama Desert has been named South America’s Most Romantic Destination for five consecutive years (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022) at the World Travel Awards, the Oscars of Tourism, and today it is going for the world title.

Vote here for the Atacama Desert as the World’s Most Romantic Destination 2022. A true oasis of nature and love in the north of Chile!
