By: Chile Travel - 28 August, 2021

If you come to Chile, for sure Santiago is a mandatory stop on your schedule. Prepare yourself to find a city full of life, dynamic and entertaining. If you still don’t know what to do in Santiago of Chile, then you came to the right place.

We live in and enjoy Santiago for more than 10 years and it has become one of the city we keep with the most warmth in our hearts. We toured the city looking for the best hidden places and also the most traditional ones. On form all our experience, we created this guide of what to do in Santiago in 3 days.

Start planning your journey!

What to do in Santiago Day 1: Historic Centre

La Moneda: The Historic Center is the ideal place to start touring the things to do in Santiago in 3 days, because is one of the most vibrant areas on the city. We recommend you start touring in front of the La Moneda Palace (Metro Station: La Moneda), the Chilean government palace. In the front, you will see the Bicentennial flag and in the underground, you will find the La Moneda Palace Cultural Center, where there are exhibitions all year long.

Plaza de Armas and Paseo Bandera: Follow up until the Plaza de Armas (Metro Station: Plaza de Armas), where you will find the Santiago Cathedral, Chilean Postal Services building, the National History Museum and the Pedro de Valdivia Statue, among other city icons. On the road, you can’t miss walking Paseo Bandera! To give a little color to your tour through Santiago of Chile in 3 days.

Pre-Columbian Art Museum: If you like museums, then the Chilean Pre-Columbian Art Museum it’s a mandatory stop (Metro Station: Plaza de Armas). Is one of the most interesting museum we have visited in the city (and we have visited a lot!), with beautiful native art collections of the area.

Mercado Central: It’s lunch time and there’s still lots to do in Santiago of Chile! Go to the Mercado Central (Metro Station: Cal y Canto) to taste typical sea-food dishes, all fresh and with the most Chilean style. In here you’ll also find fresh fruit, “empanadas” (typical Chilean food) and local handicrafts. When you have your “tummy full and a happy heart”, as we say in Chile, continue your journey on the Fine Arts Museum, the National Theater and the National Library.

Santa Lucía Hill: Next to the National Library you’ll find the Santa Lucía Hill (Metro Station: Santa Lucía). We invite you to go up, visit the parks and admire the city from up-hill. Going up is easy, but it is worth to cheer up with a nice “mote con huesillo”, typical Chilean drink.

Lastarria Neighborhood: Going downhill, you’ll find Lastarria Neighborhood (Metro Station: Universidad Católica), on of the bohemian and artistic neighborhoods where you can enjoy street music, exhibitions, museum and handicrafts. We are ending this first day of things to do in Santiago of Chile in 3 days, but you can’t leave without tasting a good roses ice-cream (yes! Made of rose petals!) and an Ulmo Honey ice-cream at the Emporio La Rosa Artisan Ice Cream Shop. Then, at night, you can finish your tour dining in the same Neighborhood, where you can find hundreds of cafes, bars and restaurants with all types of food.

The North Pedro de Valdivia Avenue (Metro Station: Pedro de Valdivia) ends at the foot of the San Cristóbal Hill and right there you’ll find the entrance to the Metropolitan Park Cable Car. This way you can ride to the top of the hill and tour the different viewpoints with wonderful views of Santiago. And that’s not all! In San Cristóbal Hill you can also visit the Japanese Garden, the Mapulemu Garden and many other paths to walk. Of all the things you can do in Santiago of Chile in 3 days, San Cristóbal Hill will take you a whole morning at least.

Costanera Center and Sky Costanera: Going downhill, got to Costanera Center (Metro Station: Tobalaba or Los Leones), one of the most visited mall in Santiago of Chile. If you like going shopping, this is the ideal place because you’ll find the best stores in town. And if not, anyway we recommend a visit to Sky Costanera, this is the highest viewpoint of South-America, at 300 meters high and with a great panoramic view of the whole city. You can miss it on the things to do in Santiago of Chile!

La Chascona: Are you still eager of doing things in Santiago of Chile? Now we recommend you visit one of the houses owned by the famous Chilean poet Pablo Neruda, called La Chascona. It closes at 6pm and you need, at least, one hour to tour it completely. From here you can walk to Pío Nono, the next destination on this guide of things to do in Santiago of Chile in 3 days.

Bellavista Neighborhood: And you can’t leave Santiago of Chile without visiting the well-known Bellavista Neighborhood (Metro Station: Baquedano), in here we finish day-two on the city capital. Around the streets of Pío Nono, Constitución, Mallinkrodt and Antonia López de Bello, you will find hundreds of cafes, bars and restaurants, each of them with their own particular style. The most special and distinctive one you’ll find is the Patio Bellavista, where live music places, handicrafts shops and interior patios get and mix together.

Save energy, we have one day left on this guide of what to do in Santiago de Chile in 3 days.

What to do in Santiago Day 3: San Miguel and Quinta Normal

San Miguel’s Open Sky Museum: You got to the last day on this guide of what to do in Santiago of Chile in 3 days. We invite you to go a little further and beyond the most touristic points and go to the San Miguel’s Open Skye Museum (Metro Station: Departamental). There are many blocks of murals in the middle of residential buildings, being the biggest public, open and free art museum of the country. Besides admiring art, you can visit street markets and eat on little local restaurants.

Also, you can take a boat ride on the lagoon and walk under the shade of the trees. The ideal picture for a good weather day in Santiago of Chile.

Yummy! To end your journey of the best things to do in Santiago of Chile in 3 days with a finishing touch, we recommend a good barbeque. At the municipalities of Santiago Centro, Providencia and Las Condes you will find good restaurants to try great pieces of steaks. Don’t forget to pair it with pisco sour and a bottle of wine, you won’t regret it!
