Every year, between June and October, Chile’s mountains are beautifully dressed in snow, making July and August the best months to come to enjoy snow sports on our mountains.

As the northern hemisphere prepares for summer vacations and ski lovers around the globe are looking for where to ski next, Chile Travel invites you to discover some of the best places in Chile for skiing and snowboarding.

Valle Nevado

Valle Nevado is one of Chile’s most popular ski resorts, only 46 km (28 mi) from Santiago. With 9,000 hectares (22,200 acres) of skiable terrain, it is one of the largest ski areas in South America. The 34 ski slopes are perfect for skiers of every level, from first-timers to pros.

The lifts and gondolas are state-of-the-art and offer access to the highest peaks and the best views of the Andes. This famous ski resort also has a wide variety of accommodation options, including hotels, apartments, and a wide range of restaurants and bars.

El Colorado

El Colorado, another popular ski resort in Chile, is only 36 km (22 miles) from Santiago. With over 15 lifts and more than 100 slopes, it has a variety of runs for both experienced and amateur skiers. Well-known for its wide variety of terrains, there is something for everyone: some are long, gentle runs for beginners, and others steeper, more challenging for advanced skiers. Several lodging options are available, such as hotels and apartments. Other attractions will keep you entertained even when you’re not out in the snow.

Portillo

Portillo is one of Chile’s oldest ski resorts located in the Andes Mountains, just 146 km (90 mi) from Santiago. It stands out for its stunning natural beauty, the emerald Inca Lagoon and its challenging slopes, making it a popular destination for advanced skiers. With 500 hectares (1235 acres) of skiable terrain, 35 runs, and a maximum altitude of 3,310 meters (9850 ft) above sea level, this is the place to visit if you are looking for a challenging ski trip. This ski resort has a hotel, and other chalets are not too far.

Nevados de Chillán

Nevados de Chillán in central-southern Chile, in the Biobío Region, is one of Chile’s most picturesque places to ski. The resort has 28 slopes, 11 lifts, 10,000 hectares (24,700 acres) of skiable terrain, and a wide variety of off-piste terrain for pro skiers. One notable attraction here is the natural hot springs, perfect for relaxing after a day on the slopes. In addition to these adventures, there are hotels and lodging options, bars, and restaurants to entertain friends and family. 

Corralco

Corralco is located in Chile’s Araucanía Region, one of the most remote and pristine ski resorts in the world. It has 28 ski slopes, six lifts, 200 hectares (50 acres) of skiable terrain, and plenty of off-piste terrains that experienced skiers love. Renowned for its impressive views of the Lonquimay volcano and natural hot springs to sink into and relax, this place gives you the sporting adventure you are looking for and stunning views, plus various lodging options according to your preferences.

Los Arenales de Lonquimay is one of the least known ski centers in Chile, but it is completely worth a visit. The resort is inside the Malalcahuello National Reserve, it has 6 slopes, divided by levels. Skiers are surprised by the native animals that are often spotted in the area. Los Arenales is notorious for its beautiful landscapes and its off-piste terrain, which makes it a favorite destination for more advanced skiers. 

Las Araucarias and Llaima Volcano

One of Chile’s most unique ski centers is Las Araucarias in Conguillio National Park. You can enjoy ten slopes, four lifts, and a variety of off-piste terrain if you are an advanced skier. Another reason to visit this center is for its impressive views of the araucaria trees, the Llaima Volcano, and the chance to relax in its natural hot springs that will replenish you completely.

With 11 runs, six lifts, and a maximum altitude of 1000 meters (3280 ft), the Osorno Volcano Ski Center is in the Los Lagos Region of Chile. It is a beautiful ski area with breathtaking views of the Osorno Volcano and Lake Llanquihue. Here you can enjoy your favorite sport and take beautiful photos of the surrounding countryside at the same time.

Cerro Mirador in Punta Arenas

Club Andino at Cerro Mirador is in Punta Arenas, the southernmost city in Chile. Cerro Mirador has six slopes and two ski lifts, and its highest point is 600 meters, allowing you to live an extreme experience in the southern tip of Chile and the world. One particularity that makes this center so unique is the possibility of overlooking the Strait of Magellan and Tierra del Fuego from the heights. You will surely find many options to eat, relax and enjoy with your partners at the ski center and surrounding area.
